A One-of-One
Geometric Paper Sculpture

Lunar Lotus Bloom™ is a one-of-one handmade paper sculpture created through modular geometry, repetition, symmetry, experimentation, patience and care.

Its complex twelvefold form is generated from only two elementary modules: a mirrored pair of 30–60–90 right triangles. Through repetition, combination and changes in orientation, these two modules create the sculpture’s layered spatial geometry—reflecting a principle central to CATs&DOG®: a limited family of repeatable elements can generate diverse and complex forms through orientation and assembly.

The sculpture itself is not designed to be disassembled or reconfigured. Instead, its complete form can be displayed in two stable orientations. From above, one orientation appears as a radial bloom; when turned over, the same object reveals a distinctly different spatial identity. From the side, both orientations reveal changing layers of depth, shadow and structure.

Lunar Lotus Bloom™ therefore offers two sculptural expressions within one physical artifact—demonstrating how reorientation alone can create new value without adding material or components.

It can be read as a bloom, a star, a crown, a memorial geometry and an architectural study. It is not a product or lunar-structure prototype, but an original artwork emerging from the design journey behind CATs&DOG® and The Lunar Lotus Family.

This is the only original handmade paper sculpture represented by this title and provenance record.

The twelvefold composition also draws inspiration from the Persian lotus, a recurring symbol associated with renewal, harmony and continuity. This cultural reference is reinterpreted through Omid Hajishirmohammadi’s original modular geometry and contemporary paper construction.

Twelvefold Lotus Geometry

Lunar Lotus Bloom™ carries a twelvefold geometry informed by the symbolic depth of the Persian lotus: renewal, peace, resilience, cosmic harmony, dignity and remembrance.

Like a lotus emerging from difficult ground, the sculpture imagines beauty and meaning growing from Earthly memory toward lunar possibility.

Four Levels of Growth

The sculpture developed through four visible levels: a central core, an inner bloom, a middle spatial layer and an outer crown.

Each level grows from the geometry before it, turning repetition into depth and a flat pattern into spatial presence. Together, the four levels allow the work to be read as sculpture, memorial study, architectural exploration and artifact of transformation.

Development & Provenance

Lunar Lotus Bloom™ developed through experimentation rather than a single making session. Its first core was formed in November 2022. The main layered development was completed during the final quarter of 2023, and the finished form was documented in December 2023.

More than 121 hours of direct work were invested in developing and making the sculpture. This included creating and testing cores in different sizes and geometric configurations, resolving the twelvefold structure, designing the flat origami patterns, printing, cutting, folding, gluing and assembling its four visible levels.

The time invested in photography, documentation, website development, communication and auction preparation is additional to the direct making time.

Artist Statement

Lunar Lotus Bloom™ began under the working title Circular Tomb, during a period when questions of memory, exile, dignity and future return were deeply present for me.

Over time, the work grew beyond a memorial study. It became a quiet record of my journey as an architect and entrepreneur—from years of construction experience on Earth towards Moon-to-Earth construction innovation.

Its modular geometry gradually acquired another meaning for me. Each module can represent an individual or organisation: distinct and valuable, but limited when standing alone. Through the right connections, separate parts gain strength and begin to function as a larger whole.

I originally intended to retain the sculpture within my personal archive because it preserves an important chapter in both my creative work and the journey that led to CATs&DOG®. In 2026, I chose to present the sculpture through a proposed sealed-bid auction because a future acquisition could help create precisely those connections—bringing together the partners, knowledge and capabilities needed to advance the journey. The first auction did not proceed, and the artwork remains part of my collection.

For me, Lunar Lotus Bloom™ carries both a memory and an invitation. It asks:

How can geometry, care and commitment bring the right people and organisations together around a shared purpose—and help us build better worlds?

Why Artifact No. 001 Matters

Lunar Lotus Bloom™ was created before The Lunar Lotus Family became a formal initiative. It emerged during the formative period in which the ideas behind CATs&DOG®, memorial geometry and Moon-to-Earth construction were gradually coming together.

Its status as Artifact No. 001 documents that beginning.

Should The Lunar Lotus Family initiative or CATs&DOG® later contribute meaningfully to construction innovation, terrestrial applications or future lunar infrastructure, the sculpture will remain the first documented physical artifact associated with that journey.

That possibility may add cultural, historical or collector significance over time. However, no future financial value or market appreciation can be predicted or guaranteed.

Any future acquisition should be based on the collector valuing its uniqueness, craftsmanship, provenance and connection to the initiative—not on an expectation of financial return.

What a Future Acquisition Could Include

If Lunar Lotus Bloom™ is offered for acquisition again, the proposed collector package could include:

  • The physical one-of-one Lunar Lotus Bloom™ sculpture

  • A signed certificate of authenticity

  • A signed provenance and development record

  • Confirmed dimensions, weight and condition documentation

  • Professional packaging suitable for personal collection or insured delivery

  • The opportunity to receive the artwork personally from the artist at BlueCity in Rotterdam

Subject to a future collector’s consent, any acquisition may also be documented as the first transfer of Artifact No. 001 of The Lunar Lotus Family™. Public recognition would only be provided with the collector’s consent.

What a Future Acquisition Could Make Possible

Lunar Lotus Bloom™ stands as a one-of-one original artwork in its own right. If it is offered and acquired in the future, proceeds could help support the next stage of The Lunar Lotus Family™ and the continuing development of CATs&DOG®.

The Development Goal

The immediate goal is to engage construction companies, family businesses, corporate-venture teams, technology providers and research organisations that could help co-fund, validate, manufacture and demonstrate CATs&DOG®.

CATs&DOG® is being developed as a modular and reconfigurable construction-system approach for more resource-efficient habitats and infrastructure on Earth and, eventually, the Moon.

At this stage, the priority is to secure the partnerships, funding and validation opportunities required to progress from early development towards physical prototypes, testing and demonstration.

How Future Proceeds Could Be Used

Proceeds from the acquisition will support a focused programme of partnership and business development, which may include:

  • targeted participation in relevant construction, architecture, sustainability and space-industry events, matchmaking programmes and partnership forums;

  • meetings and travel connected to prospective corporate, research and public-sector partners;

  • preparation of technical materials, presentations and partnership proposals;

  • identification and coordination of validation, manufacturing and demonstration partners;

  • development of Lunar Lotus Family stakeholder activities and communication; and

  • project leadership and reasonable founder compensation for the time required to coordinate and deliver this work.

The intended outcome is to secure organisations capable of contributing to the next development phase through corporate sponsorship, paid pilot work, co-funded research, technical collaboration, manufacturing support or strategic investment.

A future acquisition would not finance a finished product. It could support the partnership-development work through which CATs&DOG® may be tested, validated and advanced.

The Lunar Lotus Family Initiative

Lunar Lotus Bloom™ is Artifact No. 001 of The Lunar Lotus Family™—an initiative connecting people and organisations interested in advancing Moon-to-Earth construction innovation through responsible, long-term collaboration.
